Dr Kara Britt
Dr Kara Britt is a Team leader at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. She received her PhD from Monash University for studies on estrogen regulation within the ovary. She performed postdoctoral studies in cancer biology at the Institute of Cancer Research in London with Alan Ashworth and Matthew Smalley with further training under the mentorship Gail Risbridger (Monash) and Robin Anderson (PeterMac) after this. Kara now leads a team investigating breast cancer risk in order to develop preventative therapies.
Kara’s laboratory have identified changes in the breast epithelium and stroma in cases of increased breast cancer risk and protection which are guiding the develop and pre-clinical testing of preventative and early stage cancer therapies. Their immune based studies are using an unbiased assessment of the immune microenvironment to identify the cells most important in tumour initiation and prevention.
